Enjoying the moment.

The sun falling on my desk while I work.

It’s the last day of August and here at HinterSpace HQ the weather can’t decide if it’s hot summer or crisp fall and I also feel a little in between. I’m a person who likes to live in the current season rather than looking forward to the next one and this week in particular feels like we’re right in between it all. Meteorological summer is not over yet, but school vacation is and it seems as though my clients took some of August for time off and now are ready to kick projects back into gear with a new vigor.

Coming up I have a pricing effort for an addition in Newton, continued design work on the Poconos Cottage, a potential deep energy retrofit on the Cape, some new mini-projects on existing clients as well as construction on now three projects. It’s a nice raft of work that I’m beyond grateful to have.

Oh yeah, August is also the one year anniversary of the creation of the company and it’s remarkable that the time has gone by so quickly. People call starting a company a bold move, but it never really feels likes that to me. I’m still committing to the same level of service for my clients that I learned to provide when I worked for others, I’m using the same tools and have the same phone number even and overall it just doesn’t feel like a big leap. Sure the company operations stuff is now on my plate and that is something new to me, but to me it feels like just the next thing to learn rather than a brave adventure into the unknown. Those could be famous last words, but I’m really glad that I’ve taken this path and haven’t looked back at all.

And now, the kids are back at school leaving the halls at HQ quieter during the day, the sun is shining through the window, warming my feet under the desk and I’m really glad to be in this moment on the edge of two seasons, between my first and second year of operations, watching my kids learn and enjoying the projects I have.
