Headshots!

On day one of this firm I had my wife take several photos of me in the yard of our home that became my “official” headshot, but I knew that I wanted (and possibly needed) to get some professional shots done at some point. Two years later and I made that happen by calling up Oliver Thom of OJRT Photography. Oliver is based here in Natick as well and was recommended by a friend and when he and I met for coffee it was instantly clear that he was the right person for the job. He was very open to what I wanted, which was images taken outside, that were imperfect and showed my personality rather than something stiff and posed. We agreed to split the session so that it included some studio time and some time on location.

The time in his studio was good, and I did end up selecting some of the images that came out of that part of the shoot. I’m thinking that in the future I might need something that is expected to be a bit more on the professional side for projects that require formal submissions. The studio time was fun and helped loosen me up some, but I was really looking forward to the location shots.

The location Pegan Hill, Natick. The time: sunset.

We put some equipment in my trunk and headed to South Natick, which feels much more rural than most of the rest of the town. We took a risk and parked illegally so that we didn’t have to do a hike carrying a camera bag and umbrella light - and we found that we weren’t the only ones to do that this particular evening. Oliver got set up and we got to it pretty quickly, moving from one part of the hilltop to another, trying to catch the light just right - and I think succeeding! My daughter came along as a shadow to see how photographers work; it’s an area of interest for her and this was a good experience. Her behind the scenes photos are in the gallery below.

Honestly, this was all so much fun. I’m generally a self-conscious person when it comes to photos, but having a professional give you their full attention is a thrill. 10/10 would recommend.

Here’s a subjects POV of the photographer at work. He got right down in the grass and promised to do a tick check when he got home.

On top of just enjoying being in a photo shoot, how can you not enjoy yourself when there’s a view like this?

A few days later Oliver shared a gallery with me that included many dozens of photos and I went through them with the PR Team here at HQ (my wife, daughter and sister) and we narrowed it down to a few, and then from there I selected two get as full resolution images for my professional use.

Honestly, I like them all so much that it was a tough decision to make, which is definitely a good problem to have.

I can’t say enough good about Oliver and his work, if you need photography for your business or family event or if you want to make a music video - he’s the one to call!
